Sustainability Statement 2025

Sustainability in ice cream production is often discussed in targets and ambitions. In practice, it comes down to something more concrete: how equipment performs through continuous production in real environments. This is the perspective behind our 2025 Sustainability Statement - focusing on where impact truly happens: on the line.

Where the impact is

With improved emissions data across 2024 and 2025, we now operate on a stronger foundation for decision-making. The key insight is clear: 78% of the total carbon footprint comes from the use phase of the equipment. For producers, this places sustainability directly into production - how efficiently lines run, how resources are used, and how waste is reduced.

Addressing this is not about a single breakthrough. It is about targeted improvements that work within existing processes. Through Gram Equipment @ SMART Solutions, we work directly with customers to reduce energy use and food waste in daily production. In 2025, this approach was extended further with the introduction of low-GWP refrigerant technology to smaller lines, making lower-impact cooling solutions more accessible across different production setups.

What changed in practice

A small adjustment in foil handling on our packaging equipment shows how details matter. On a single line, this can remove around 5.3 tons of plastic and 18.7 tons of CO₂e per year.

One line. One year. Measurable difference.

Where we improved

Alongside technical developments, 2025 also marked progress in how Gram Equipment works across its organization and value chain. The company maintained its EcoVadis Silver rating while increasing its score to 73, placing it among the top 15% globally. Responsible sourcing efforts also expanded, with broader coverage of the Supplier Code of Conduct. Internally, developments also continued across working conditions, ethics, and diversity.

2025 Highlights

  • Full carbon inventory (Scopes 1, 2 & 3) completed for the second consecutive year.
  • Committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with 2025 as baseline year.
  • EcoVadis Silver rating maintained, score increased to 73 (top 15%).
  • Supplier Code of Conduct expanded to 78% of total spend.
  • 100% of employees verified to receive a living wage.
  • 97% ethics training completion.
  • 27% women among new hires, above target.
  • Development of a food waste quantification model initiated.
  • SammenomJOB award received for inclusive employment (2nd year).

What comes next

Looking ahead to 2026, the focus is on achieving SBTi validation, launching the food waste calculation tool, and further developing solutions that reduce energy use and waste in production. Health and safety remains a key priority, with the ambition of zero accidents.

This is how we move forward - building on what is in place, with clear priorities for what comes next.
